Resistor Bank

RC Resistor Banks

High-Current Discharge Solutions for Competitive Racing

An RC Resistor Bank is a high-performance external load used to discharge LiPo batteries at significantly higher rates than a standard charger’s internal circuitry allows. While most chargers are limited to 10–20W of internal discharge, a resistor bank can handle up to 40A or more, making it a critical tool for racers who need to quickly bring batteries to storage voltage or “cycle” them to improve track performance.

Why Use a Resistor Bank?

  • Lower Internal Resistance (IR): High-amp discharging “wakes up” battery chemistry. By cycling a pack at 40A, you can lower its IR, resulting in more “punch” and higher voltage maintenance under load during a race.
  • Speed & Efficiency: Discharging a fully charged 4S or 6S pack internally can take hours. With a resistor bank, you can reach storage voltage in minutes, allowing you to pack up quickly or prepare for the next heat.
  • Charger Protection: By moving the heat generation to an external bank, you protect your charger’s sensitive internal components from the thermal stress of high-wattage discharging.

Professional Features & Design

Modern resistor banks are engineered for the rigors of the pits, moving away from “DIY” light bulb setups to professional, enclosed units:

  • Active Cooling: Integrated high-speed fans and aluminum heat sinks ensure the resistors stay within safe operating temperatures.
  • Seamless Integration: Designed specifically for Junsi iCharger DUO and DX models. They typically connect to one channel while the battery connects to the other in “Regenerative to Channel” mode.
  • Heavy-Duty Wiring: Equipped with 10AWG or 12AWG silicone wire and high-current connectors like XT60, XT90, or 4mm bullets to handle massive current without melting.
  • Space-Saving Footprints: Many units are designed to sit directly under or behind your charger stand, keeping your pit mat clean and organized.

Compatibility Note

Resistor banks are most effective when paired with chargers that support extra discharge or regenerative discharge modes. Always ensure your cables and connectors match your charger’s output ports for a secure, low-resistance connection.
